An inquest at Norfolk Coroner’s Court heard that paramedics initially believed he had suffered a catastrophic cardiac arrest.
However, a post-mortem conducted by consultant pathologist Dr Ben Marriott at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital later revealed a piece of strawberry lodged in his throat, causing him to suffocate.

His daughter, Michelle Clarke, told the court her father had moved into Homestead House, north of Norwich city centre, in 2022.
Police constable Adam Fearn, who attended the care home following the sudden death, said ambulance crews initially believed Mr Pipe had suffered a catastrophic cardiac event while eating.
