Two low-pressure systems have developed over northern and eastern India, bringing the prospect of widespread rainfall over several parts of the country in the coming days. However, the revival comes against the backdrop of strengthening El Niño conditions, which could influence the latter part of the monsoon season. The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, with Bihar also expected to receive widespread rain towards the latter part of the forecast period. The wet spell is not expected to remain confined to eastern India. Its forecast indicates that El Niño conditions could strengthen further during the remaining southwest monsoon season.
