Translink proposes YLink fare discount reduction

TRANSLINK has launched a public consultation on proposals that could see the YLink discount for young people reduced from 50 per-cent to 33 per-cent, prompting criticism from Youth MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Jack McCubbin.
The consultation, which is part of an Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA), also includes proposals to reduce family fare discounts and review a number of late-night bus services.
Speaking on the proposals, McCubbin said: “Translink have now launched a consultation to decrease the YLink Discount from 50 per-cent to 33 per-cent, decrease family fares, and cut back essential night time services.”
“The YLink card currently allows young people aged 16-23 to get 50 per-cent off all services across Northern Ireland.
Translink responded: “Public transport is currently facing significant financial pressures.
