Green received 183,872 votes, or 81.8% of the total votes cast in the Democratic primary. Nonpartisan candidates John “Raghu” Giuffre, Bu Laia Hill, Clyde “Mac” McClain and Calvert Williamson did not meet either requirement to move forward to the general election. The Hawai‘i House District 5 Democratic primary featured incumbent Jeanné Kapela of Captain Cook challenged by familiar Hawai‘i County Council face Matt Kaneali‘i-Kleinfelder of Hilo. U.S. Congress District IIIncumbent U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda won the Democratic primary with 91,832 votes, or 83.4% of the total vote. Her closest competition in the Democratic primary was Steven King of the Big Island, who tallied just 3.5% of the total vote, or 3,908 votes.
