Ichthyosaurs were large marine reptiles that lived alongside dinosaurs during the Mesozoic era. Their fossils have been predominantly found in North America and Europe, with a few discoveries in the Southern Hemisphere, mainly in South America and Australia. “This indicates the possibility that ichthyosaurs could have traveled between what are now Europe, Western India, Madagascar, and South America,” explains Guntupalli Prasad. The researchers now hope to continue excavations in the area and unearth more Jurassic-era vertebrates, which could provide further insights into the evolution of these marine reptiles in this part of the world.
