The suspects were arrested on August 6, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation launched after residents reported a series of thefts involving electrical connections from D-Iron to electricity meters. The 17 appeared before Mkukula First Grade Magistrate Court on August 7, where they all pleaded guilty to the offences and were subsequently convicted and fined a combined K1.5 million. Jussab Mataya received the highest fine of K500,000, while Benson Linje was fined K200,000.
