At a high level, the FAA says the proposal would move away from a rigid, prescriptive checklist of required medical items and replace it with a flexible, performance-based standard. The FAA also emphasises that EMK use is generally intended to occur with ground-based medical oversight, rather than flight attendants acting as independent medical providers.
