The 24th Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival began on Friday its nine-day celebration of Black creativity and storytelling.
Ms. Prince-Bythewood told the audience she had been sent the script twice in the past seven years, but turned it down both times.
In the action-packed film, Ms. Prince-Bythewood had all of the actors do their own stunts, which took months of preparation.

“It’s everything that made you fall in love with storytelling,” Ms. Mbedu said.
