Federal ministers Nancy Shukri and Alexander Nanta Linggi have sought Cabinet attention on Sarawak’s proposal to create 17 additional state assembly seats.
(File pic)PETALING JAYA : Federal ministers Nancy Shukri and Alexander Nanta Linggi, both from Sarawak, have pressed for action by the federal government to bring about Sarawak’s plans to create 17 additional seats in the state assembly.
She said that she and Nanta, who is works minister, knew that the Election Commission had carried out the necessary processes which had been approved by the Sarawak state government.
Last month, deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said the proposal to add 17 seats to the Sarawak assembly was unlikely to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat this year.
In July last year, the state assembly passed a bill to add 17 new state seats, increasing the total to 99, subject to the redelineation process by the EC.
