Barisan Nasional holds 21 seats in the Melaka state assembly, while Perikatan Nasional has two, through PAS and Wawasan.
(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA : Negotiations between Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional on seats to be contested at the coming Melaka state election will be a litmus test of their informal alliance, says a political analyst.
With BN declaring it would contest all its 21 seats, a failure to reach a compromise would have wider repercussions on the loose alliance, said Mazlan Ali of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
“If they can’t agree on seat negotiations in Melaka, how would they settle them in Kelantan and Terengganu (for the 16th general election)?”
However, BN won 21 state seats at the last Melaka polls, while PN only secured two through PAS.
