Eastgate Shopping Centre is marking the 45th anniversary of the Cats Cradle Pussiewillow III Clock, the famous mechanical creation designed by acclaimed British artist, inventor and cartoonist Rowland Emett OBE. The clock was officially unveiled on August 7, 1981, and has since become one of the town's most recognisable attractions. Lee Spencer, centre director at Eastgate Shopping Centre, said: “The Cats Cradle Pussiewillow III Clock is so much more than a piece of artwork – it is a cherished part of Eastgate’s identity and a landmark that has brought joy to generations of visitors. “We are incredibly proud to be the home of such a unique creation by Rowland Emett and to celebrate its place in Basildon’s history.” To mark the anniversary, Eastgate is inviting visitors to share their memories of the clock, which remains one of Basildon's most treasured landmarks after 45 years.
