The fire, which broke out at Merrymeade Country Park on August 8, was the second of its kind in the Brentwood area in recent days. This is following a deliberate fire at Larkins Playing Field on Thursday, August 6. A Brentwood Fire Station spokesman said: "We were called to a fire in Merrymeade Country Park, following a similar incident attended by Green Watch earlier in the week. "From White Watch, we’d like to give a big shoutout to the youngsters who spotted the fire, raised the alarm and showed us exactly where it was." Officers say they regularly see a rise in deliberate fires started by children and young people during school holidays.
