The Mion Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region, Sulaiman Abubakar, has resigned from his position, effective August 8, 2026. Mr Abubakar announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the NPP Regional Chairman in Tamale. “Please, kindly accept this letter as my formal resignation as the New Patriotic Party Mion Constituency Chairman effective today, 08 August, 2026,” he wrote. He expressed particular appreciation to the Council of Elders, patrons, polling station and electoral area executives, as well as the wider membership and supporters of the party in the Mion Constituency. Despite leaving the constituency chairmanship, Mr Abubakar said that his resignation did not amount to a departure from the NPP.
