Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has urged newly ordained priests to champion unity and transform communities by serving all people regardless of their religious affiliation. Tayebwa made the call on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Nyamitanga, Mbarara, during the ordination of eight priests and 16 deacons, where he urged church leaders to ensure development projects benefit communities without discrimination. He also called on the Church to work closely with government in the fight against poverty and corruption, saying religious leaders should understand the challenges facing their communities and help people improve their livelihoods. Tayebwa further urged the newly ordained clergy to promote discipline and values among their congregations, while Archbishop of Mbarara Lambert Bainomugisha encouraged them to emulate Jesus Christ by serving with love, faith and humility.
