The government aims to ensure no child remains out of school and plans to introduce free school uniforms to encourage attendance, Primary and Mass Education State Minister Bobby Hajjaj said today. Speaking at a national consultation workshop on primary education at a Dhaka hotel, Bobby said the government wanted to strengthen programmes for children outside the formal education system. He also expressed concern over weak foundational learning, saying many class four and five students lack basic Bangla reading skills. He also criticised dependence on private tutoring and said the government was working on a new teacher policy, stronger monitoring and technology-based systems to track students’ learning. The state minister said primary education would put greater emphasis on mathematics, design, art and practical learning, including science toys and mathematics laboratories.
