The government will have to sign an even stronger accord if the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Accord is cancelled, prominent academic and Jum Aesthetics Council President Shishir Chakma said.
“Many are demanding the cancellation of the CHT Accord.
He said that although 29 years had passed since the signing of the CHT Accord, no resolution had been reached.
“If the government does not declare a roadmap on how to establish peace in the region, starting with the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord, the wounds inflicted on the common people of the hill tracts will never heal,” he added.
The event was presided over by Prakriti Ranjan Chakma, president of the Bangladesh Adivasi Forum's Chittagong Hill Tracts region.
