Nvidia is reportedly preparing to invest as much as $3 billion in Lancium, a Blackstone-backed power infrastructure developer involved in the Stargate artificial intelligence infrastructure initiative, as demand for energy-intensive AI data centers continues to accelerate.
According to a Friday report from The Information, Nvidia would initially invest $2 billion in Lancium in exchange for a 20% ownership stake.
The chipmaker could provide an additional investment of up to $1 billion if Lancium reaches certain performance thresholds, potentially bringing Nvidia’s total commitment to $3 billion.
The reported Nvidia investment highlights the growing importance of power infrastructure to the global AI industry.
Neither Nvidia nor Lancium immediately responded to Reuters requests for comment on the reported investment.
