Wildfire Service The Cultus Creek wildfire burning south of Nelson is now 16.5 hectares in size. Although local smoke concentrations have increased across the West Kootenay, fire activity may also increase as smoke clears throughout the day, according to the B.C. “If smoke is minimal, (maximum) temperatures could rise and relative humidity could fall a few percentage points,” noted BCWS. The biggest wildfire in the West Kootenay right now is the Inonoaklin Creek wildfire — located 70 kilometres northwest of Castlegar near the Needles inland ferry — and now sits at 1,301 hectares.
