Hyderabad: Malkajgiri Sharada Devi Hospital told to pay Rs 13.81 lakh after intestinal injury during tubectomyHyderabad: A routine tubectomy turned into a medical emergency for a Hyderabad woman after her intestine was allegedly injured during the procedure, leaving her with a severe infection and requiring emergency surgery at another hospital.
The Hyderabad District Consumer Commission-III has now ordered Sharada Devi Hospital in Malkajgiri, where the procedure was done, to pay Rs 13.81 lakh towards her medical expenses.
Intestine damaged during surgeryAccording to the case, D Nalini, a resident of Kapra in Secunderabad, underwent a tubectomy at Sharada Devi Hospital in Malkajgiri on May 23, 2022.
Husband approaches consumer commissionNalini’s husband subsequently approached the Hyderabad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-III, alleging medical negligence during the tubectomy procedure.
Hospital ordered to pay Rs 14.41 lakh in totalThe commission directed the hospital to pay:- Rs 13.81 lakh towards medical expenses- Rs 50,000 for mental agony- Rs 10,000 towards litigation expensesThe hospital has been directed to make the payment within 45 days.
