Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service says on-call crews have been essential in maintaining emergency cover across the county during a recent surge in incidents. On-call firefighters adjusted work, family, and holiday plans to ensure engines remained available, supporting both their own communities and other areas as needed. They also helped cover other parts of the county while wholetime and neighbouring on-call crews continued to respond to increasing demand. With the high risk of fires continuing during the summer months, the Service is encouraging more people to consider becoming on-call firefighters. On-call firefighters are paid for incidents and training, receive an annual retainer, and have opportunities for further development.
