Friends of Joe ‘Eagleman’ Powell fundraised and worked with suicide prevention charity Legend on the Bench to install a solar‑panelled bench in the park following his death in January 2025. The bench, installed on May 14, was unveiled on August 5, attended by the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Jacky Tustain, Joe’s friends and councillors. The unveiling of the bench (Image: Newsquest)The bench was unveiled with photos of Joe and his Dungeons & Dragon character, Eagleman. “They're in a dark place, they'll make the way to the light and then they'll make a call and they'll be safe.” He said he hopes the bench will form part of a wider message of hope around suicide prevention in the town.
