Built for Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988, at one point the giant yellow kettle contained a tourist information centre, book and souvenir shop and a free local accommodation booking facility. In our 'Then' picture, it can be seen looming in the foreground, with another well-know landmark, the Bay Hotel, on the right hand side of the photograph. The Bay Hotel opened in April 1938 before eventually falling into disrepair and subsequently being demolished.
