The upgrades include new, wider pavements, "raised tables" at junctions, tactile paving, and other measures in streets surrounding Lord Street Primary School. A spokesperson for the council said: "This will help to improve overall road safety, prioritise pedestrians, manage traffic flows and reduce speeds." New crossing facilities will be added to the Lord Street / Rigby Street / North Valley Road junction outside Lord Street Primary School. Following concerns from locals, the initial proposals for the Queen Street and Rigby Street junction area have been modified. The junction priority will be changed so that Queen Street traffic has to give way in a bid to improve safety and reduce traffic speeds.
