A seasonal campsite with 50 pitches at Frogham can now operate for nearly twice as many days a year despite residents’ opposition. An inspector deciding an appeal against the national park authority’s refusal to allow the change at Harry’s Field near Fordingbridge agreed to the new arrangement, but ruled it was temporary for three years. Planning (stock)Planning inspector Barry John Lomax acknowledged local residents’ comments that the use of the site for camping “has caused noise and disturbance, litter, antisocial behaviour, and smoke from campfires, including late into the evening, when surrounding residents might reasonably expect a quieter and less active environment”. But having approved the variation, he said consent brought new safeguards. “Furthermore, mindful of the need for these mitigation measures to be effective in this sensitive context, I have imposed a condition which will make the planning permission temporary.”
