Sandstone City Administrator Kathy George said after watching it sit vacant for so long, the city did not want to see the iconic structure go to waste. But now that it’s done, they see it and they come to me and say, ‘Kathy, when I said that, I was wrong.’ These stones were quarried just down the road in the Sandstone Kettle Company Quarry and brought up here back in 1901. I mean, you just can’t find workers like that anymore or skills, the skills, the trades that you need to make this beautiful, iconic building.”
