One of the first things I evaluate when I’m working on a new system is how it manages notifications. If you’ll forgive the tautology, notifications are supposed to notify! As an engineer on their mailing list, I used to receive notifications for when they’d be performing impacting works, and advisories of potential hazards. Ignored notifications are worse than useless, because the assumption is made that people are monitoring them… otherwise, why are we sending out notifications for people in the first place? Though it seems I could rest assured that for so many systems and businesses, they’re busy spamming themselves already.
