(ABC 6 News)- A very special celebration took place on Saturday in Kasson as the last Civil War veteran buried in Dodge County was honored. His name was Private Abner Aaron Johnson, and he was only 16 years old when he served in the Civil War. Historians with Dodge County said it’s days like Saturday that are especially important to continue spreading knowledge to the younger generation, as about 451 men served in the Civil War from Dodge County. “It is a reminder that Dodge County was important to the Civil War and some of the battles in the Civil war,” said Jean Bartel, the volunteer President of Board of Directors at the Dodge County Historical Society. One of those battles was the Battle of Chickamauga, in which most soldiers from Dodge County were killed.
