In essence, the Senegal-Gambia border densification programme is a cooperative confidence-building exercise. Such incidents are regrettable, but they also reinforce the importance of completing the densification programme in a transparent, coordinated, and cooperative manner. Completing the densification programme should therefore be viewed as an investment in peace, certainty, and effective border management. If managed carefully and completed as originally envisaged, the border densification programme will not alter the Senegal-Gambia frontier.
