Ned Lamont (D) is asking municipalities to pause the installation of any new automated license plate reading cameras (ALPRs) as the state looks into guidance for their use. Lamont said he's calling on the Connecticut Police Officers Standards and Training Council to review the increased use of Flock cameras or any other ALPRs across the state. The request is that the council develop guidance for local and state police departments that, among other things, will outline privacy provisions in existing state law and recommend specific policies to be adopted. Lamont asked the council to take 30 days to develop this guidance. Flock cameras, which automatically capture license plates on public roads, have drawn scrutiny in communities including Milford and Cheshire.
