Thiruvananthapuram: A case has been registered after an AI-generated fake video featuring a senior Kerala Police officer was circulated on social media to allegedly defraud the public, police said on Sunday. In the altered audio, the officer's fake voice claims that no registration fee is required and that individuals could earn up to Rs 25 lakh, officials said. During cyber patrolling, the video came to the notice of police and a case was registered at the Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police Station on August 7, police said. The case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act for impersonation, forgery and cyber fraud. Police said it was being probed whether similar fake videos featuring other police officers and politicians were circulated through social media platforms.
