Keeping Score: How Danny Elfman helped revive ‘Spider-Man’ in 2002In an era where superhero fatigue is at its highest, the name Spider-Man still gets a lot of people excited. Prior to 2002, the web-slinger was not a movie star, and while there had been a few attempts, none had really hit the big time. Apart from the story and iconic pairing of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man facing off against Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, one of the best structural components of Raimi’s Spider-Man is its music. Composing duties were handled by Danny Elfman, who, while perhaps more strongly associated with Tim Burton, had been working with Raimi ever since his 1990 film Darkman. He also had previous working experience on big comic book projects, having written the score for Burton’s 1989 take on Batman.
