Jeffrey Cassar, one of the Maltese men allegedly involved in the bizarre incident which saw around €700,000 in cash dumped into the sea off Sicily, has been jailed for five months after breaching his bail conditions.
According to Times of Malta, Cassar was charged with breaching bail on Thursday, with Magistrate Jean Paul Grech sentencing him to five months behind bars.
Cassar was reportedly on bail when he travelled to Sicily, where he was allegedly aboard a boat with Owen Jones, Sage Gauci and his adolescent son.
His lawyer stressed that Cassar denies any involvement in the Sicily incident and said the five-month sentence will be appealed in the coming days.
Cassar has previously been jailed for breaching bail conditions, including separate incidents in 2014 and 2015.
