Growing Up in Godshill: The Memories of Joy Draper (nee Thorne), 1907–1995 is the latest publication from the Ventnor and District Local History Society,It shares the experiences of Marjorie Nellie Joyce Thorne, known as Joy, who was born in Godshill in 1907. Her memories are drawn from two talks she gave to children at Godshill School when she was in her 80s, describing everyday life during the First World War and her time working as a house parlour maid from the age of 14. "So here it is, one life among the many. "I have written all that I thought should be recorded before it is completely forgotten, about things that are now totally gone."
