A Hawaiʻi County police officer was recognized this week for his quick thinking and tactical planning after he helped apprehend a wanted man who ran from officers.
Officer Joshua Flores was named the Kaʻū Officer of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2026 during a ceremony Wednesday in Nāʻālehu.
Several hours into his shift, Flores and other officers received information about the whereabouts of a man wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.
“Officer Flores is a tremendous asset to the district,” Hanoa said.
Hanoa also highlighted Flores’ work as Kaʻū’s community policing officer, saying he remains focused on engaging with residents and learning from and serving the community.
