Ghanaian paediatric oncologist Dr. Emmanuella Amoako has been named the recipient of the 2026 Roux Prize, becoming the first Ghanaian to win the prestigious global award for outstanding contributions to population health.
The award, announced by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington, recognises individuals who demonstrate exceptional use of health evidence and data to improve the lives of populations.
As part of the recognition, Dr. Amoako will receive a US$100,000 prize for her contribution to improving population health through evidence-based approaches.
The Roux Prize was established in 2013 by philanthropists David and Barbara Roux to honour individuals who have demonstrated exceptional impact in population health through the innovative application of health evidence and data.
The 2026 award therefore represents not only a personal milestone for Dr. Amoako but also a significant recognition of Ghanaian expertise in using evidence to strengthen healthcare delivery.
