The August 4 commission meeting left me concerned not only about the proposed use of Fund 47 resources, but about the decision-making process itself. Many of the same questions were raised by fellow commissioners. They exist because members of the public and fellow commissioners may identify risks, tradeoffs, or consequences that decision-makers have overlooked. The vote may be over, but the obligation to address concerns raised by the public and fellow commissioners remains. Most importantly, the people of Grand County deserve a decision-making process that values deliberation as much as outcomes.
