The Senate approved a long-delayed sanctions package targeting Russia and Iran on Friday, delivering a decisive final tribute to the late Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. The Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 passed by an overwhelming vote of 86 to 11. “This bill says to Vladimir Putin, ‘Your days of war are numbered,’” bill sponsor Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said last week. Before Friday’s vote, Graham’s sister, Senator Darline Graham Nordone of South Carolina, called for “a show of strength” from the Senate. “The strong bipartisan support for this bill is a fitting tribute to Senator Lindsey Graham, who devoted years to supporting Ukraine as it bravely resisted Putin’s war machine.
