MIAMI (August 8, 2026) — The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently tracking two distinct tropical waves in the central and eastern Atlantic, assessing their potential for development over the next seven days.
System 1: Central Tropical Atlantic (20% Formation Chance) A broad area of disturbed weather associated with a tropical wave is positioned several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
The system is expected to move westward across the central tropical Atlantic.
System 2: Eastern and Central Tropical Atlantic (40% Formation Chance) A second tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa on Tuesday.
This system is also expected to track westward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
