The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two tropical waves across the Atlantic, with forecasters indicating that both could see some development during the coming week.
As of 2 p.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 8, one tropical wave over the central tropical Atlantic had a near-zero chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 48 hours and a 20% chance of formation over the next seven days.
A second tropical wave over the eastern and central tropical Atlantic is also being monitored.
Neither tropical wave is expected to develop immediately, but the systems are being watched as they move across the tropical Atlantic during the heart of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.
