Manipur Horticulture Department Sets Out Roadmap To Boost Organic Farming, Market Access

NET Web DeskThe Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, has outlined a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen the State’s horticulture sector through organic farming, improved market access, value addition and modern infrastructure.
Debadutta Sharma said the Department’s initiatives are aimed at increasing farmers’ incomes and positioning Manipur as a leading organic horticulture state.
The Department has facilitated the marketing of more than 1,000 metric tonnes of Chakhao, 700 metric tonnes of pineapple, 600 metric tonnes of turmeric, 500 metric tonnes of ginger, 10 metric tonnes of kiwi fruit, five metric tonnes of avocado and five metric tonnes of dried King Chilli outside the State and abroad.
The Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) has also received national recognition through awards at the Jaivik India Awards and organic food exhibitions.
Sustainable horticulture-based livelihood programmes will also be promoted in poppy-affected areas to provide alternative income opportunities and further strengthen Manipur’s organic horticulture sector, he added.
