The first two teams to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, were confirmed on Saturday. Algeria became the first country to seal their place, with a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast. Algeria are also the first African team to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Sakina Ouzraoui scored for the Atlas Lionesses before Hanan Ait El Haj doubled their lead from the penalty spot. The two quarter-final fixtures on Sunday will see Nigeria play Cameroon and Malawi take on Ghana.
