Two Evanston moms, Sarah Shaftal and Maddie Bergier, launched a podcast last month, intending to focus on Evanston hot topics that people care about. Several other Evanston podcasts have existed in recent years, including Laurice Bell and Ron Whitmore’s Evanston Rules (last episode in July of 2025) and Everything Evanston, run by Northwestern University student journalists (last episode in May of 2024). As Bergier and Shaftal started to work together, they bumped into neighbors and community members willing to help them. As the podcast develops, Bergier also hopes that community feedback will help guide their topics and guest speakers.
