Guntur: Minister for Tourism and Guntur district in-charge Minister Kandula Durgesh directed Agriculture and Irrigation department officials to extend full support to farmers in view of the prevailing drought like conditions caused by El Niño impact. Speaking at Guntur District Irrigation Advisory Board meeting at the Collectorate in Guntur on Saturday, the Minister said keeping in view limited availability of water, officials should ensure that irrigation water was used judiciously without causing any shortage of drinking water. He directed officials to create awareness among farmers and ensure that every farmer completes e-crop registration. He suggested examining the possibility of supplying water to delta region through Pattiseema when water availability in Godavari increases. The meeting decided to take coordinated efforts involving Irrigation and Agriculture departments after comprehensively assessing water availability, irrigation requirements and farmers’ problems.
