12th National Handloom Day celebrated in Kapileswarapuram

Rajamahendravaram: Weavers Service Centre, Vijayawada, and Handlooms and Textiles Department, Kakinada had celebrated district-level celebrations of 12th National Handloom Day in the premises of Sri Ganapati Handloom Cooperative Society in Angara village in Kapileswarapuram mandal of East Godavari district on Saturday.
State Irrigation Corporation Chairman Vegulla Leela Krishna, Assistant Collector K Aditya Sharma, Handloom Cluster Development Officers BT Naidu and SV Phanibabu, Weavers Service Centre representative GV Nageswara Rao and Handloom Society Manager Koluvula Subbarao attended the programme.
Handloom workers took out a rally from the society premises to Gandhi Bomma Centre in Angara and paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Leela Krishna said the government was committed to the development of the handloom sector and providing free power up to 200 units to handloom families and Rs 25,000 would be credited into the bank accounts of every handloom family having a loom under Nethanna Sevalo scheme.
Handloom workers, who had made significant contributions to the development of the sector in the district, were felicitated on the occasion.
