Visakhapatnam: The convenience of reaching airport in just 30-40 minutes from Visakhapatnam city will soon have to be foregone as all commercial flights are set to take off from Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram, starting August 17. With the deadline set as August 16, civilian services at the existing Visakhapatnam Airport will shift to the newly-inaugurated ASR International Airport. Following the notification from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, commercial flight services will shift from INS Dega, from where the existing airport is operated, to Bhogapuram from August 17. According to the notification, all flight operations will be scheduled from Bhogapuram, starting August 17 and commercial operations at the civil enclave INS Dega will cease for 30 years thereafter. After visiting the new airport twice, Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers’ Association (APATA) vice-president DS Varma stated that the infrastructure ecosystem at ASR International Airport unlocks a massive cargo potential.
