Anantapur Member of Parliament Ambika Lakshminarayana met with Union Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandrashekar at Parliament House in New Delhi to advocate for a minimum monthly pension for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) workers.
Submitting a formal memorandum, the Anantapur MP urged the Central Government to sanction a minimum monthly pension of ₹10,000 for every retired GDS employee across the country.
Despite serving continuously for long periods ranging from 38 to 44 years, many GDS workers receive no regular monthly pension post-retirement.
The MP noted that granting a ₹10,000 monthly pension aligns perfectly with the spirit of social security envisioned under the Unified Pension Scheme, ensuring these long-serving postal workers can lead a dignified life after retirement.
He added that the Union Government remains committed to evaluating all structural proposals concerning rural postal employee welfare.
