The Chicago Cubs are already being viewed as a potential fit for one of this year's top pending unrestricted free agent pitchers. In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Kerry Miller predicted that the Cubs will sign San Diego Padres pitcher Casey Mize to a five-year, $90 million contract in free agency this offseason. "Prediction: 5 years, $90M with the Chicago Cubs." It would not necessarily be surprising if the Cubs tried to sign Mize this offseason. This is especially so if the Cubs end up losing at least one of their top UFA pitchers this offseason.
