The Catholic Bishop made reference to Communio et Progressio, the pastoral instruction on social communication issued after the Second Vatican Council, highlighting what he described as one of the instruction’s most powerful teachings, “communication is total self-giving in love.”
The Catholic Church leader cautioned Christians against treating the cross simply as a religious ornament or decoration.
He identified choices such as forgiveness instead of revenge, love instead of hatred, integrity instead of corruption, and selflessness instead of selfishness.
For Catholic communicators, he suggested, these values should influence how they exercise their profession and use the media.
