Photo Credit: Los AlcazaresIn a symbolic gesture of solidarity, appreciation for nature, and neighbourly camaraderie, thousands of residents and visitors gathered at the beaches of Los Alcazares to form a massive human chain in order to call for a “living Mar Menor.” Banners displaying slogans, as well as the seahorse, which has long represented the Mar Menor, could be seen all along the human chain. Environmental threats pushing Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon to the edgeEspecially now, the outpouring of support for the Mar Menor is significant. The unfortunate incident happened again in 2021, with another anoxia event resulting in the removal of more than 4.5 tonnes of dead fish from the southern basin of the Mar Menor.
