Retired Eastern Oregon prison officer receives medal of valor two decades late

An honor, two decades lateBack in 2000, the institution started paperwork to honor Roe for his actions that early spring day.
The state decided to rectify the oversight, hosting an award ceremony for Roe at the prison Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 4.
“The Oregon Department of Corrections deeply appreciates your service, and today we appropriately recognize your courage in the face of imminent danger with the Medal of Valor.”
